Trauma
We hear about trauma, but often it is hard to know what trauma is when it comes to psychological trauma. In a nutshell, trauma is an internal experience of an external event. It is different for every person. While one person might experience something like a car accident and have no negative side effects, another person might be plagued by nightmares, anxiety, panic attacks and depression. Children and adults may be struggling with trauma and be unsure exactly what is happening. Some symptoms of trauma can be:
- Difficulty paying attention
- Easy to startle
- Feeling "nervous"
- Feeling sad
- Feeling as if "there is no hope"
- Nightmares
- Irritability
If you or your child is experiencing any of these symptoms, or you think you might be having other symptoms related to a recent traumatic event, call Laura for your free 20 minute consultation at 562-716-3461. You can also email me.
